New Adventure with Dr. Croaks! A Bedtime Story That WORKS!

Those of you who have read “The Other Side of Yore” might wonder how Dr. Croaks knew of the magical treefrogs of legend who lived in the Domain of Felven on the borders of Mudgunkland. Though it is an interesting story, not knowing  lent to the mystery of the tree frogs, and wasn’t needed for a reader to understand the tale.

However, since it is an enjoyable story that I wish to tell, I have begun putting it to paper and am nearly halfway done. Though it could be considered a prequel, it is also a stand alone story that does not require “The Other Side of Yore” for comprehension.

In this telling I am experimenting with a new form of short story which incorporates NLP languaging and cadence so that the telling of it actually settles down and puts your kids to sleep!

As a journalist, I have been a student and fan of NLP for many years and was taught the practice and other mental techniques by several experts on the subject, including Tom Vizzinni, Kim McFarland, Paul Ross, and Dr. Yates Canipe. I’ve also read enough about it and practiced enough of it with peers to have a professional understanding of its use and methodology. I’ve even recorded music with lyrics that utilize NLP and meditation languaging for use by NLP practitioners, and have spoken extensively at seminars on the subject.

Using my training in NLP and other meditative language techniques learned through my mother (who studied Ayur Veda with deepak Chopra) and my girlfriend (who’s a Yoga instructor), I have crafted languaging that is highly condusive to first fascinating a child, then leading his or her imagination on a splendid journey through Yore, and finally settling the restless mind down in preparation for sleep.

I’ve been experimenting with stories made up on the fly for my girlfriend’s son Alden and the kid’s who sometimes spend the night with him, and have honed the technique into a model that really works. At the end of such a story comes some simple VAKOG description, much like the languaging in a Yogi’s corpse-pose instruction, and I have found that it is excellent at making sure that a child is off to dreamland before the infamous line “happily ever after” is uttered.

When the story is finished and edited, I’ll be submitting it to Amazon Shorts where it can be downloaded inexpensively for 49 cents. I think that Amazon Shorts is the best medium for this piece because my research has shown that parents often search online for bedtime stories in hopes of getting them immediately, without having to wait for the mail, because they need their kids asleep the very night they are searching.

When searching the net for bedtime stories they are probably often disappointed: most of what is offered is NOT conducive to sleep at all, and many so-called bedtime stories will even have questions to ask your child at the end of the tale. My arguement is that if a bedtime story is doing its job, the child in question should not be awake to answer any questions.

Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE classic bedtime stories and some of them ARE conducive to sleep. NLP was discovered, not invented, and it’s amazing when you find an old story that contains languaging only recently proven to calm the mind down.

When the story gets closer to publication, I’ll announce the date and also recommend some of those classic stories that possess “Naturally occuring NLP,” of the kind that is conducive to sleep and settling down. I’ll also share some tips on tonality and pacing that will help you relax your child at bedtime no matter what tale you are telling.

But for now, this is just a head’s up to let you guys know what I’m up to and that I’m not getting slack or experiencing writer’s block or anything inconceivable like that !!

I should have the story finished and edited in a week or so, but Amazon can take as much as 6 weeks to get a Short to publication, so I’ll be posting intermittent updates to keep you all informed.

Thanks for visiting the On Yore Side blog and may yore hops be ever long and high!!
