Calaveras County Hoe-down!
If you haven’t ready Mark Twain’s excellent short story about the celebrated jumping frog contests of Calaveras County, then you should get thee to a library post-hast and grab it up, because it is a fine read indeed!
But did you know that Calaveras County still holds frog jumping contests to this day? I don’t know it Mr. Clemens’ yarn was inspired by contests in the famous county, or whether the county started having the conmtests after the author penned the fictional story. But sure ’nuff a frog is crowned every year at the competition, and below you will find a video explaining its rules and showing off some excellent footage of real frog athletes!
