WRITER: Joe has been writing professionally for over 10 years as a freelance journalist. His articles have appeared in the award winning Contents Magazine as well as Creative Loafing Atlanta, Charleston City Paper, Mountain Express Magazine, Connect Savannah, and Richmond Hill Reflections Magazine, to name a few. His articles have covered books, ballet, music, culinary and graphic art, and his editorials have covered everything from social and wildlife conservation to social and political observance. A few of Joseph’s interview credits include Willie Nelson, Judy Collins, Collective Soul, Widespread Panic, and Dick Dale. “The Other Side of Yore,” his debut Children’s Fantasy Novel, was released January 27th of 2007.
MUSICIAN:Joseph Lyon Layden- Writer, Journalist and Musician: As a professional musician, Joe has a large amount of experience in the entertainment industry. Joe has played everywhere from Savannah to Amsterdam with various blues, jazz, funk, hip-hop, and rock groups. He has played such giant festivals as The Jazz Below the Sea Festival in Almere, Holland (6,000 people) and the Atlanta Jazz Festival (15,000 people). He has played with such international artists as Rosa King, Saskia Laroo, and Dr. Dan Matrazzo as well as nationals Kristina Beaty , Jacey Falk, Chrisie Santoni, Eric Culberson and several others, and has shared the bill with such stars as Medeski, Martin, and Wood, DeeDee Bridgewater, Sheila E., Terence Blanchard, Russel Gunn, Sonny Rollins, Chucho Valdez, and many others. Joseph studied music, literature, and psychology at Armstrong Atlantic State University, loves to tell a story, loves to write, and is deeply curious about current, past and future events as well as metaphysical subject matter.
About the Creators of The Other Side of Yore: Joseph Lyon Layden is an author, songwriter, journalist, musician and cabinet designer born in Savannah, Ga. Kenny Savage is an artist, songwriter, musician, sculptor, and woodcarver born in Savannah, Ga. Both grew up in Richmond Hill, just 20 minutes south of their birthplace, and have been friends and collaborators for over 15 years. They are currently working on a musical album to go along with “The Other Side of Yore,” as well as a sequel entitled “Another Side of Yore.”
