Thanks to everybody who was kind to an animal this week, and especially to those who were being kind to frogs and other amphibians by buying a copy of my book, “The Other Side of Yore.

For two more days the deal’s still on, and if you buy a copy on any online book store Kenny and I will donate %50 of author/artist royalties to www.AmphibianArk.org

One of the many ways that Amphibian Ark works to save amphibians from extinction is to seperate them from chytrid fungus by isolating them in zoos all over the world. Your donations are helping them to reach the monetary goal they need to insure that this integral part of our world will survive the century.

Please remember to scan and email your receipts to frawg@theothersideofyore, or contact us at the same addy for parcel post instructions. The receipts are the only way we have to know when the purchase was made, and only copies bought within the first two weeks of May will qualify for the big donation.

After Sunday, we will return to our normal policy of donating %5 to %10 of royalties (depending on the venue) to the charity.

With the book and receipt you also get a free pre-order for the upcoming music album of songs from the 156 page children’s book.

If you haven’t stopped by the book’s Amazon page lately, you might find it interesting that several top Amazon reviewers have given their “thumbs up” to The Other Side of Yore, as well as a pro from Midwest Book Reviews. Pending reviews include Bookpleasures.com, Looking Glass Review, The Reading Tub, and several regional newspapers and magazines. I’ll keep you posted with updates!

I’ve recently been reading Mossflower by Brian Jaques after people who read “Yore” recommended it to me. I’m enjoying it very much, and find the work’s quality to be far and above the standard bestselling fantasy. I decided to write the author to see if he’d like to read “Yore,” and am hoping that he has the time.

In other news, I’ve been really busy this past week writing articles for Richmond Hill Reflections and designing kitchens for the newest development in Richmond Hill, Richmond Hill Plantation. These kitchens are going to be absolutely beautiful; quinta design beveled edge shaker doors with beaded panels in maple with stain and glaze, sporting the “staggered” look with elegant crown mould, full extension dovetail drawers, lazy susans and cutlery drawers, and a six foot island with a beaded panel back and romanesque corbels. I’m also designing a custom kitchen for a very nice couple in Wilmington Island this week, which will have three foot floor-to-granite corbels on the island and intricate rope mould columns in the master bathroom.

Next friday I’ll be speaking at the AP English class of my old highschool, Savannah Christian Preparatory, about the children’s book and the business of writing. This is actually my first public speech about the book, and will be great practice for the small speeking tour I have planned for the Fall.

Well, buy now I’ve written enough that it’s either time to wrap it up or stop and edit and outline before going on, so I’m gonna choose the former.

See you next time and may luck be buy yore side!

Hi Folks!

Be Kind to Animals week is May 1 through 6 or May 6 through 13, depending on what organization you harken to, but to us it’s Be Kind To Animals TWO Weeks because we’re celebrating BOTH of them!

For the first two weeks in May, we will be donating a full %50 of all royalties from online sales of The Other Side of Yore to www.AmphibianArk.org to help save frogs and other amphibians from extinction.

In case you don’t know, a mysterious illness called chytrid fungus has been decimating populations of frogs and other amphibians all over the world, and an international organization called the Amphibian Ark has been formed by zoos, museums, scientists, and conservationists to study the fungus and save those species that are affected by what is now being called “amphibian decline.”

This threat is serious, and the fate of amphibians world-wide has been likened to that of the dinosaurs unless something is done. Because global warming has been cited as a sister cause of amphibian decline, and since amphibians are considered a good indication of the world’s health as a whole, it is extremely important to raise awareness and funds for this important cause.

Since Frawg saved his environment from a mysterious illness in “The Other Side of Yore,” it is only right that he should do what he can to save his species from a similar but actual illness in real life.

In order to make sure that all online purchases within the two first weeks of May are counted, we must ask customers to send us a receipt of the purchase. Otherwise, we have no way of knowing when the purchase was made.

If you decide to take this opportunitty to grab yourself up a copy of The Other Side of Yore and at the same time do a great deal to forward an extremely worthy cause, please save your receipt and send it to :

Joseph Layden

35 Sandpiper Road

Suite 102

Richmond Hill, Ga

31324

Purchases made on Amazon.com, bn.com, booklocker.com, and all other online book stores will all be counted, as long as the purchased copy was NEW. We generally receive royalty checks three months after a sale, so please try and have your receipts in by late July so that AmphibianArk will obtain it’s funds as quickly as possible.

We encourage you also to visit AmphibianArk.org to learn more about Amphibian Decline, and, if you are able, to donate or lend a hand to the cause. Donations are tax deductable to most US citizens.

Whether you’re able to buy a copy of The Other Side of Yore now or later, remember that we always donate a small percentage of the royalties to this special cause. During special promotion and fund raising weeks, we just donate a whole lot more!

Thanks to everyone for your wonderful support, and be sure to check out the awesome “Poetry of Yore” by Amanda Richards in my last blog entry!

Kenny and I have decided to donate a modest percentage of the royalties from the online sales of The Other Side of Yore to wwww.amphibianark.org, who are at the forefront in the fight to save frogs and other amphibians from the mysterious fungus that threatens them. We figured that since we’re telling the tale of how Frawg saved his species from a mysterious illness in our fiction, then it’s only right to have Frawg do what he can to help save his species in our real world. Online sales include bookstore wholesale orders and internet transactions, but do not include sales of books by Kenny or myself. We just use the money from those sales to buy more books, which we send to reviewers, libraries, publications, and other industry pros for marketing purposes or which we resell to buy…you guessed it…more books!

While expenses involved in producing and marketing “The Other Side of Yore” will keep the donation amount modest (likely 5-10% of author royalties), we are planning to offer several other products over the next 6th months that will be able to contribute a heavier percentage to the cause. These include “Save the Frawg!” T-Shirts with Kenny’s amazing art work and a full album of Frawg Music played and sung by the heroes of “The Other Side of Yore” themselves!

Amphibian Ark has got alot of things planned for 2008: Year of the Frog!

I hope you’ll check back now and again and I’ll keep you posted!
